Am I right to be bitter?
I think I am, but please, tell me, what do you think?
I got a job. I was notified in mid-August, with 3 weeks to go before the start date (9/5). A week or two later, they told me that the date had been pushed back a week, and asked if i was ok with doing a mandatory, unpaid training, and that if i passed it, i'd get the job. (I was like, "I guess I have to be ok with it.")
Then we went in to fill out a form for them. That was 3 weeks ago. They said they'd get back to us about the training date, and they even had us write down when we would not be available (people have to arrange childcare, have other work, etc). Well, then I didn't hear from them for a week and a half!! wtf?! I thought maybe I hadn't gotten the job. 6 days after signing the papers, i emailed my personal contact in the management, and he said that everything was held up and behind schedule. i got an official email a few days later, and it said that the start date would be 9/25 and that they would inform me when they had decided on the training dates. Well, tthe 25th was today. WTF?!
I keep going over and over all these things in my mind- did some people start the job and not me? (one supposed fellow-worker-to-be didn't return my last 2 phone calls from 2 weeks ago). Did the training start and I wasn't notified? Do I have the job or not?
And at this point, I'm just plain angry. And bitter. I have been so broke for so long, and I did a lot of mental preparation for applying for and starting this job. I was excited and proud that i was going to be able to pay for my share of October's rent. I was excited that I'd be able to buy hunnybunch a nice birthday present. And now, there's none of that. I have considered applying for another job, (related to what i want to do after this job) but i just can't really get going on the cover letter. So this job could start in a week. Will I be all mean and bitter? (yes) Will I get fired from yet another job? (fortunately as far as i know my social security application is still active) Will they actually pay me? (new businesses can have questionable financial situations, ya know)
