Toxed out at the gym
I went to the gym tonight. It started raining just as I was leaving the house. I almost hadn't brought my rain gear. So I went- did some stretches, lifted weights, admired my gigantic spare tire (what the hell is up with that), and then went swimming. I went in the hottub, which was very bubbly. I was really itchy on the way out of there. Then I went in the sauna and took a shower in the area where noone was showering (I always try to do that to avoid people's stanky products).
As I walked into the locker room, I suddenly had to shout, "Ugh, what the fuck is that smell?! " I think I tried to say something about how the signs in there said to not use/wear scented products there. This lady who'd been talking about some pants she bought that needed taking in when we were in the sauna and this Japanese woman she talks with a lot looked at me like I had grown a fourth nostril. That white lady is always kind of a cunt- she has a really loud voice, talks a lot with people... when I got into the pool I had gotten into her lane and she had gotten out on my first lap.
Anyhow, I think I have to write a flyer. Some points to bring up:
what is environmental illness
things like MCS, chronic fatigue, etc
how going to a safe gym can be beneficial for folks who have it
- I am not my own best advocate when I am reacting to something
-everyone reacts differently
things people can do to help:
-not encourage mold growth
-use unscented products- nothing with "perfume" or "fragrance", sodium laurel sulfate and other ingredients like that are bad
-things that say no perfumes or dyes are good
-list some brands that tend to be more ok- but you always have to read the label
More info
-list some resources to learn more
-books about safer shopping and about MCS
-stores that tend to have safer products
-websites?
so, how do i write this concisely and how do i lay it out
and how do i distribute it- like putting it in people's lockers? what if i offer the flyer to people like that and they refuse to take it?
